VERSATILE BALLET DANCER ‘RAVAN OF INDIAN BALLET’
GURU CHANDRAKANT HADKARJI

Guru Chandrakant Hadkar is son of Late Shri Ramchandra Hadkar and Late Smt. Sitabai Hadkar. Guruji was born in the Year 15th July 1922. At the age of 12 Guruji came to Bombay & worked as a commercial Designer at Blockmaking company & later worked as a commercial Artist at Mehboob production & Atre Pictures. Guruji worked as an Asst. Art Director with noted Art Director Shri Dada Palnitkar. Guruji’s dance Training started at kala Premee Shri Bhargavram Pange’s Sangeet Nrityakala mandir parel under nritya Maharshi Achharya Parvati Kumar. At the age of 16 in year 1938 Guruji gave his 1st Stage performance as Baji Phasalkar in the natak Ponha Hindu, costumes were prepared by dance Director Shri. Harish Petle. Guruji performed several challenging characters in Ballet, the inspiration behind his Abhinay was great stage Actors Shri. Nana Saheb Phatak & Shri. Master Dattram.

From the year 1945 Guruji has been imparting the knowledge of Bharatnatyam, Kathak & Ballet style to students. Many students have performed Arrangetram under Guruji’s Guidance.

Lavnee Nritya Workshop :
Guruji had conducted Lavnee Nritya workshop in Mumbai at Shivaji Park for 5 days, this type of Workshop was probably first of its own kind in the year 1950.

Dance performance in Pandit bhatkhande’s Punyatithi :
Guruji had performed a Kathkali Dance in Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande’s Punyatithi held at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan in the year 1950.

Dance Performance in a temple :
Arti Nritya at Kedarnath Mandir in 1950 on the occasion of Somvati Amvasya, Tandav Nritya at Shankar Mandir Gavdevi, Mumbai & Kashi Vishwanath Mandir, Matunga in the year 1955.
2 hours Krishna Leela Nritya at Shirdi Mandir in 1984 on occasion of Guru Purnima Utsav.

Special Certificate :
Bhartiya Kala Kendra – Delhi has Honoured Guruji with a Special Certificate for out standing performance in the Ballet Ramleela, Directed by famous choreographer Shri Devendra Shankar in 1958.

65 Sequences & 15 Characters in a Ballet :
In INT’s Ballet Discovery of India Guruji had performed 65 Sequences & 15 Characters. The Script writer of this ballet was Shri. Rajendra Shankar, date 1964.

Bharatnatyam Nritya Workshop :
Guruji was invited to America to conduct Bharatnatyam Nritya Workshop in the year 1995.

Guruji Performed with Lokshahir Shri Amar Sheikh in Ballet Yeh Vyartha Na Ho Balidan, Guruji composed many dances & did solo dances on the Song. Janamabhumi meri, Krishna Leela, Hunter Dance, Peacock Dance.

Noted Kavi Shri. Narayan Pednekar Said, “ Guru Chandrakant Hadkar’s Performance as a crow was the most impressive after picaso’s world famous crow” Date 1963.

In the ballet Heer Ranjha the Role of Kaidochacha performed by Guruji was so impressive & powerful that veteran Actor Shri. Balraj Sahani was highly impressed and wholeheartedly appreciated Guruji, Date 1967.

Well known poet Shri. Shivram Devalkar said, “ Master of dance Guru Chandrakant Hadkar has taken Dance as his life & he is a devotee of Dance” Date 1978.

Renouned artist Shri. Vidyadhar Ghokhale said, “ Shri Chandrakant Hadkar is a genuine Nritya Visharad of Marathi tradional dances & he is Maharashtra’s Nritya Mayur,” Date 1979.
